Happy Birthday, Jack!
I can't believe you're three years old. Time has flown by since you were born, and in such a short amount of time you have grown so much and learned even more. You have been so smart since very early on. You could talk very early and walk as well. You continue to amaze me with your eagerness to learn, grow and develop. I feel like I should be doing more as your Mom to help facilitate your learning. You are so curious about your surroundings, conversations going on and the world around you. You always seem to be listening and chime in with questions that I can't believe you come up with! You know all of your letters and numbers, and can put numbers together to make even bigger numbers. You know all the sounds of the alphabet and are constantly trying to figure out what words start with what letter. You can identify your name, as well as many of the names of your class mates. You can also identify Mom, Dad, cat, dog, and stop. You also can spell each of those words when asked.

This year for your birthday you got a few cars, some clothes and a couple other toys. We woke up and you opened presents, then went to daycare while I worked. At school they made you a crown that you wore all day, and you took cupcakes to share with your classmates. After school I picked you up and we drove to Provo to meet Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Rob for dinner. Then your Dad met us and you went to Logan for the weekend. You had a Cars themed birthday party there and spent lots of time with your Johnson cousins.

Jack, you are so loved by me and so many other people. I pray everyday that I will help you live up to your potential and raise you to become an amazing man.

I am so proud and happy to be your Mom.

End of Summer Updates

Jack-
Time is flying and you're growing up too quickly. You are always wanting to learn new things. Lately you're intrigued with numbers and putting them together. You always read the speed limit signs and are becoming quite proficient. However, sometimes you still get confused, and the result is actually quite comical. For instance, 15 sometimes come out "one-tee-five." You also confuse the 50s occasionally too, and say "fivety-two." Its so cute to see your little mind in action. I hope you always continue this passion for learning and growing!

Today while driving to meet Dad, you said, "Mom, I really gotta shoot a elk." I died of laughter because I am not even convinced you know what an elk is, let alone the sport of shooting one. I guess it just goes to show the powerful influence of friends. Your daycare friends are definitely rubbing off on you!

Speaking of daycare, you recently moved up to the 3-year old class, the Dragonflys. You LOVE it and love your classmates, especially Carson. In fact, the teachers have encouraged me to encourage you to make friends with other kids. Apparently you become quite possessive of Carson, and are very upset when he plays with anyone other than you. They do preschool activities at daycare as well, and your teachers are constantly telling me how smart you are and how surprised they are that you know so much. They also think you say such funny things and always comment about it. Their favorite thing is when you say, "teacher, it looks like a storms a brewin'!" Miss Maria also says you have not stopped talking about the day we got our tires changed on the car.

Other things you do that make me realize you are growing up so much are: going potty all by yourself, including pulling down and up your pants, putting on socks and shoes alone, saying prayers without help, singing various songs verbatim, and carrying out small tasks.

You can also identify your name and know every letter of the uppercase alphabet and most of their sounds. You love to play a game of figuring out what people's names and various words start with. You mind is always in action! I can't wait to see what you become in life.

While everyday life for the just two of us has its challenges, I love every minute of being your Mom. You are so sweet and lovable and I love cuddling with you every night and reading books, singing before bedtime, and listening to you bargain your way out of going to bed. I love you, Jack!

Summer Fun 2010

{Punch} lines

Jack, you always say the funniest things. It continually surprises me that at such a young age, your mind is whirling and you can reason and say such smart and witty comments.

This week, the Butikofer girls were staying with us. We were in the car, and they were teasing about "punching each other in the face." You, of course, immediately started mimicking them and saying it too. I told you that it is unacceptable to say "punch," and that its not a nice word. You looked at me, plain as day, and said, "But Mom, I can say punch in my cup, like from Walmart."

I couldn't even believe you could come up with that. I just laughed, and said, "yes, punch in a cup is okay to say."

Mother's Day

Jack-
Today is Mother's Day and I wanted to quickly tell you how much I love being your Mommy. Heavenly Father has blessed me with the sweetest, smartest and most loveable boy around. He knew I would need you to help me through some hard times. You are so sweet and loving to me. When you see me sad, you are very concerned and always want to make me happy. Today when you called to tell me Happy Mother's Day, you asked me if I was happy. I am happy, Jack. I'm happy to be your Mommy and hope I do everything I can to raise you to be a happy boy, too.

Smarty Pants...

Jack, you are such a smart boy and love learning new things. Since we have been working on letters and numbers so much, you always want to know how old everyone is and what letter their names start with. You know the ages of most of your cousins and definitely Mommy and Daddy. You also know your birthday and you love to talk about "when you turn 5 and go to school." Yesterday, we were shopping and you jumped out of the stroller to play with some toys. You asked if you could have them, and I said, "maybe for your birthday." Without missing a beat you looked up at me and said, "On October 7th?" Your face was priceless! I can't believe my 2-year old is so smart!

Sedation Vacation

We had your dental appointment to get your 4 cavities fixed. We arrived bright and early in our jammies, and the dentist gave you a shot of ketamine and versed. It kicked in immediately and you got really sleepy. Dr. Scholzen took you back to the exam room and I waited patiently for him to finish. Once he was done, he put you in my arms till you woke up. You were so silly coming out of the sedation. He said you would probably be seeing double for a while. You kept reaching for things and talking with slurred speech. I kept laughing at you. Once you were alert enough, they let us go home. You couldn't hold your head up, so I had to do it for you. I decided I would run to Wal-Mart and grab you a present since you did so well. I tried to lay you down in the cart, but you wouldn't do it, so I held you and your head up. All of a sudden, you threw up all over me in the middle of the store! What a mess! We cleaned it up, and headed to the toy aisle. You picked out an ambulance from your favorite show/books "Cars." We headed home and enjoyed the rest of our day. While you were watching TV, you kept saying, "There's 2 Bootses and 2 Doras!" It was so funny. You also tried eating a gogurt but had trouble getting it in your mouth, since you were seeing double. You were rather sleepy and we loved just laying around all day. In total, you ended having 5 cavities! That's a lot of work for one little boy!

First Dentist

Jack had his first dentist appointment on January 27, 2010. We arrived to the pediatric dentist office and unfortunately had to wait for an hour and a half before we finally got to see the dentist. By this point, we had missed lunch and were well into nap time. Jack was not too happy about being trapped in a room with so many dental tools for so long, but luckily the dentist finally came in. I made the appointment for his initial check-up, but I knew he had a couple of spots on a couple of teeth that were concerning. As soon as he looked in his mouth, he said they were definitely cavities. I asked him what I could do, or what I have done to cause this. I was rather annoyed at his response, because he told me it was my poor brushing that had caused it. I beg to differ, but oh well, what could I say? He also said that going to bed with a sippy cup or drinking lots of juice is problematic. Jack does neither of those. I am going to chalk this one up to genetics, but obviously the dentist did not agree. Jack cried for most of the appointment. He sat on my lap and laid his head back so the dentist could do his examination. He was happy at the end when he got his balloon and book, and I was less than happy when I got the estimate of how much the 4 cavities, plus sealants(he of course recommended) and SEDATION for the procedure would be. Thank heavens for dental insurance, or it would cost a whole lot more. I hope we can get these little teethies fixed and stay on top of his dental work before it gets too bad. I wanted to take a picture to document this fun little milestone for him, but I couldn't get him to hold still! This is the best I could do...... A pre-dentist shot.

First Haircut

Mommy says it finally time for a haircut. My hair is long and curly and oh so cute. Since Mommy was cutting hers all off, we got mine trimmed, too.

3 Months

"Three months already?" I love to smile, play with Mommy and Daddy and watch the toys on the bouncy chair.
I weigh: 14 lbs 8 oz
I am: 25.4"

At my doctor's appointment, I had to get shots. I was very good and only cried a little!
